Community Employment (CE)

Community Employment participants are involved in every aspect of the work in St Andrew's. We currently have participants working in the areas of Childcare, Eldercare, Youth Services, Adult Education, Local Employment Service, Local Heritage Productions (including a quarterly magazine), the Cyber Café, and Computer Training Room. At present participants are also working in reception, building security, building maintenance, the canteen and within the centre's general administration.
Community Employment Participants are also placed in a number of outside organisations. We have participants working with Dublin 246, a Citizens Information Service, in Westland Row church, City Quay church, Haddington Road School, St Laurence O'Toole Church Sheriff Street, St Anne's Church Dawson Street, CBS Westland Row, City Quay National School and most recently Gloucester Street Sports and Recreation Centre.
One particularly important scheme is the St. Andrew's/Crosscare Programme, based in St. Brigid's, Holles Row. The project employs 18 participants and a supervisor under Community Employment. A four course meal is provided six days a week for over 200 homeless people. An extensive Meals on Wheels programme is also operated from St. Brigid's. This is a very important and valuable programme and an excellent example of successful partnership between St. Andrew's and Fas. Training is provided for the participants in all aspects of the catering industry, including Silver Service. May participants move on to full/part-time work in the industry.
